The Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqey Bachelor of Social Work Program has an intake every three years and
is directed toward First Nation peoples in New Brunswick, Quebec, and the Maritime Provinces who wish to become social workers in their communities.

Distinctive Features

  • There is recognition that First Nation peoples have been historically disadvantaged in educational and other systems.

  • The program design respects that First Nation students are typically employed and have family commitments. In recognition of these commitments, courses are offered one week per month (September to April) over a two-year period and 2 weeks in the months of May and June.  Students will be in Field Placement in the 3rd year.

  • There is recognition of First Nation systems of knowledge, practice and ways of learning.

  • There is a culturally-relevant curriculum that reflects First Nation’s holistic world view.

  • The program is overseen by a committee of members from St. 91探花, First Nations Child and Family Agencies, and student representatives from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

St. 91探花 Campus

All courses will take place on the St. 91探花 campus in Fredericton, NB. This allows students to benefit from facilities and resources on campus during their program. There will be a discounted hotel rate for students who travel out-of-town to attend classes. Students will be responsible for booking accommodations and for covering travel and accommodation costs.

Indigenous Student Services

The Wabanaki Centre

The Wabanaki Centre serves as a home away from home for Indigenous students. It provides a wide range of services designed to support Indigenous students during their studies. It includes a kitchen and lounge area to meet student needs. The lounge area provides a welcoming space where students can relax, study, and work on assignments. This space is also used for Indigenous-specific workshops.
