Representatives from all of the 4 Franco-Indian Health Sciences Campus (CFI) projects (IntegratedHealth Campus, ILIADE, Therapy Innovation and BIOSANTEXC) gathered for the first time at the joint meeting of the Franco-Indian Campus for Health in the Indo-Pacific Region, held at IIT Delhi on 23rd November 2023.

The workshop was organized by IITD and facilitated by the French Institute in India – The Embassy of France in India. Discussions focused on the research and industrial programme in the field of life sciences for health. The status of each of the 4 projects was presented along with round-table discussions on the long-term support needed by the campus, involvement of the private sector, and harmonizing a roadmap for the future.

IntegratedHealth Campus (IHC), which is one the four projects under the aegis of CFI, is a collaboration between IIT Delhi and Sorbonne University, focusing on Global Healthcare with a multidisciplinary scope. The collaboration serves as a forum for interaction, mobility and cooperation between student, faculty, staff and departments of the two institutes through exchange and joint degree programmes.

This strategic meeting, which consolidated a long-term partnership between the French and Indian Higher Education Institutes, was graced by the presence of the Ambassador of France to India, Mr Thierry Mathou, Mr Laurant Toulouse (Deputy Director of Higher Education & Research, MEAE), Dr Shahaj Uddin Ahmed (Scientist F, DBT), Prof. Rangan Banerjee (Director, IITD), and CFI representatives from the 4 projects (Listed below).

IIT Delhi and Sorbonne University: A New Strategic Partnership

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Sorbonne University and IIT Delhi in Delhi (India) on June 7, 2023, formalizing a new strategic partnership. This is a result of successful submission of a joint project in June 2022, as part of the French government’s Franco-Indian Campus for Health initiative.

IIT Delhi hosted an initial workshop in February with the participation of 11 faculty and staff from Sorbonne University and several who contributed online.

In addition to research collaborations between the faculty members of both the institutes, the partnership will also translate into joint programs of study fostering mobility of students, faculty and staff between the institutions. The Student Mobility Program will support movement of 2 Master’s students from Sorbonne University to IIT Delhi and 4 postgraduate students from IIT Delhi to Sorbonne University.

The two partner institutions plan to expand the fields of collaboration gradually over several years.

Hosted by Dean of International Programs, Prof. James Gomes and Indo-French Campus Coordinator, Prof. Manidipa Banerjee, the event was attend by Christopher Cripps, Senior Advisor to the President for Global Engagement & Diplomatic Affairs and Professor Alexandre Escargueil, Coordinator of the Indo-French Campus project were at IIT Delhi. The objective of the visit was to sign the institutional agreement, forge ahead with joint education and research projects, and promote the mobility schemes to IITD Delhi students.

Sorbonne University hosted a delegation of faculty and staff from IIT Delhi in Paris in October 2023.
